LEARN ENGLISH
English is the most widely spoken language in America. It is imperative to learn English if you want to succeed. The Learning English Section discusses many opportunities to learn English: including online, in the classroom or on your own.
Self-Learning
There are many products available that can help you learn English on your own. Workbooks, audio CDs, DVDs and other media can be purchased at bookstores or online to help you learn English skills. These products are often successful because they allow you to learn the language at your own pace, when it's convenient for you. Ingles en el Trabajo offers a variety of audio and video programs that teach language skills directly related to a specific job. So, if you'd like to immediately improve your communication at work, visit www.ingleseneltrabajo.com.
In the Classroom
Many local schools and municipalities offer English as a Second Language (or ESL) courses to non-English speakers for low or no charge. Try contacting the following places for information:
- Local community college - Many community colleges offer ESL courses year-round. Some offer courses specifically designed for Spanish-speakers who want to learn English.
- Local Library - Librarians may be able to direct you to a local Adult Learning Center that can help you learn English. Even if they do not, the library will most likely have some tools to help you learn, including self-learning products, such as CDs, videos and workbooks.
- Board of Education/High Schools - Your community may offer ESL instruction, especially if you live in an area with a large Spanish-speaking population. To find out, visit the local Board of Education office and ask about ESL instruction.
