EDUCATION
A good education can often be the key to success. The Education Section includes information about educational opportunities including: attending college and trade and technical schools that provide training for a specific job. Education for your children is very important, so information on how to help your kids get started in school is included as well.
GED
If you did not finish high school as a teenager, you can still take a General Educational Development or GED test. Passing this test is the equivalent of obtaining a high school diploma and will open up many opportunities for work or more education. To take a GED test, contact your local Board of Education, search for an Adult Learning Center in your area, or visit www.acenet.edu/programs/GEDTS.
Trade Schools
Trade schools and technical schools offer training in specific skills and usually certify you to work in a specific field. The types of trades taught at these schools are numerous - from carpentry to plumbing to nursing to cosmetology. The length of study at technical schools is usually considerably shorter than that of a university, so they will allow you to enter the work field more quickly. Trade schools can be found many ways, such as internet directories like www.trade-schools.net, and community colleges often offer a variety of certification courses in different fields. If you are enrolled in certain technical courses, you may be eligible for federal financial aid to help pay for tuition costs.
